KIA 5-door Cerato a hit at European test drive
2006-07-21
Media from Germany, Italy, the UK, France, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal were recently given 50 fully-equipped Kia Ceratos to take for a spin around rural roads as well as high-speed motorways.
Designed toreflect and satisfy the tastes of consumers in Europe – the birthplace of the hatchback – the 5-door Cerato Euro features a stylish ‘long roof’ line that stretches to the cabin profile, a sport-tuned suspension, 16-inch alloy wheels and a fully dressed-up interior. According to one test drive participant, “The Cerato Euro is fully equipped with many convenience features, and the long roof hatchback not only offers maximized interior space for added comfort but also gives it a very modern and sporty look.”
Test drivers praised the power and torque of the 2.0 CVVT (continuously variable value timing) engine, the smooth and effortless shifting of the 5-speed manual transmission, and the responsive handling. The Cerato was also applauded for its excellent levels of NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) and overall quietness of operation.
From a style and function standpoint, high marks were given by journalists for the vehicle’s spacious rear seating area, 60:40 split rear seat folding system, ergonomic control layout, and the quality of the interior materials and craftsmanship.
Moreover, many test drive participants commented on the Cerato’s great value given its dynamic performance and abundance of features.
“We are confident that the Cerato Euro will be met with instant success in the European market,” said Yong-Hwan Kim, senior Executive Vice-President and COO of Kia Motors Corporation. “Following in the footsteps of the Picanto, this newest model is expected to appeal to young consumers and further enhance the young and sporty essence of the Kia brand.”
