Crime and criminals can strike anywhere. It doesn't matter where you are or where you live - there are people who will stop at nothing when committing criminal acts, including hurting young people.

That is why you need to be alert - always!

On The Streets

• Avoid going out alone as much as possible.
  
• Stay away from dark and lonely streets, open plots of land, and abandoned buildings.
  
• Don’t accept lifts or rides from people you don’t know.
  
• If you think a car is following you, turn around and walk the other way, and get to a group of adults or a Police Officer as quickly as possible, and tell them what is happening (note the number of the car if you can).
  
• Do not take large amounts of money to school or anywhere else; if you have to carry a large sum of money, don’t display it in public.
  
• Do not go anywhere with strangers, if anyone tries to force you to go with them, scream and call for help as loudly as possible.
  
• Always tell your parents or guardians where you are going, what you are going to do, and what time you will return. If you change your plans, call home or send a message.

 

At Home

• When you are alone at home, or there is no adult at home, lock yourself inside.
  
• Don’t tell anyone who calls your home, or anyone who comes to your door, that you are alone. Don’t let strangers come in.
  
• Don’t let anyone who comes to do business (for example people from T&TEC, WASA, TSTT etc) into your home unless they produce up-to-date identification. Call their company or organization to confirm their identity.
  
• If anyone touches your body in a way that feels wrong, even an adult whom you know, say “NO” and get away to a safe place. Tell what ha happened to another adult whom you can trust.
  
• When you know something that the Police should know about: Don’t listen to anyone who says it is wrong to help the Police fight crime – remember, criminals are the ones who make life difficult and dangerous for ALL of us and our families.
  
• If you are worried about anyone finding out that you are helping the Police, report what you know by dialing 555.
  
• As a responsible member of our society it is your duty to help prevent and fight criminal activity – your information could help save lives and prevent a lot of sorrow.

 

At School

• Obey all school rules and regulations – they are made for your safety.
  
• Avoid contact with trouble makers (bullies, unruly students, etc.)
  
• Avoid contact with unauthorized people including those who do not belong to your school.
  
• If you are threatened by anybody, report it immediately to a teacher or any member of staff.
  
• Do not carry or display jewelry, valuables, or large amounts of money.
  
• If anyone touches your body in a way that feels wrong, even an adult whom you know, say “NO” and get away to a sage place. Tell what has happened to another adult whom you can trust.
  
• Report all criminal activity that you know about, to a teacher or senior member of staff – your information could help save lives and prevent a lot of sorrow.
  

Call If

• Someone has an illegal weapon (gun, knife, etc.)
• You saw a crime being committed.
• You see someone suspicious hanging around.
• You know anything that can help prevent a crime of help the Police arrest a criminal.
