The Directors and Managers of Southern Sales and Service Company Limited are committed to the protection of the Health, Safety and Security of our employees, users of our products and services and to the conservation of the Environment.
Southern Sales and Service Company Limited aims to comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation in particular the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 2004 and its amendments of 2006, the Environment Management Act 2000 and accepted international practices in the Automotive Industry and elsewhere.

To accomplish this, we shall:

• Ensure that potential HSSE risks associated with all our activities are identified and assessed as early as practicable.
• Take appropriate actions to safeguard people, the environment and assets.
• Continually take responsibility for the security aspects of our business activities.
• Solicit and ensure the active participation of suppliers and service providers towards promoting the policy.
• Provide adequate instructions and information to perform work efficiently and safely.
• Provide the required professional training for all employees.
• Ensure that work is sufficiently supervised by knowledgeable Supervisors.
• Ensure that adequate emergency equipment and emergency plans are available to cope with any incident.
• Ensure that incidents are reported promptly, investigated in depth and documented appropriately.

We will review our overall policy annually, while our HSSE objectives will be at regular management meetings. The HSSE policy shall be communicated to all persons working under the control of Southern Sales and Service Company Limited, including Subcontractors. Continued compliance to STOW-TT standard shall be a benchmark for the achievement of these objectives.

Operating in a responsible and sustainable manner is important to SSS and so we have adopted the following CSR Mission and Vision to guide our activities:

SSS believes that the guiding principles behind our Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability programme lies with the following:

  • Conducting business in a responsible, ethical and transparent manner.
  • Embedding consideration of CSR issues into our internal processes and corporate policies.
  • Being aware of the impacts our operations, products and services can have on the natural environment and the safety of our people, contractors and customers.
  • Facilitating opportunities for all SSS employees to enhance their social contributions through volunteering and financial/in-kind donations.
  • Respecting, engaging, learning from and supporting the communities and cultures we operate in.

Environment

Environmental management is one of the ways in which SSS has incorporated CSR into its business practices through several waste / disposal management and recycling processes.

In 2018, SSS initiated its recycling campaign internally with a major emphasis on plastics and the proper disposal. Further emphasis was also placed on adopting a culture of eliminating the use of plastic bottles overtime.

Southern Sales and Service Company Limited has committed to preserving our environment for our future generations and partnered with the Energy Chamber of Trinidad And Tobago for the 8th hosting of the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) initiative in September, 2018. This further re-emphasized our commitment through the overwhelming volunteerism and support from our staff at Carli Bay in Couva, Trinidad.

This data was forwarded to the Ocean Conservancy Office and was used to drive policy formation and legislation on environmental protection.

It is our hope that in the long run positive actions like this will encourage others to play their part in actively making the environment in which we all live cleaner and healthier.

SSS will continue to manage its operations in an environmentally friendly and conscious approach while simultaneously creating and developing an internal culture and environment that fosters same.

Employees

The first and the foremost responsibility of an organization towards its employees is to ensure that they are happy and satisfied with their jobs. This is a philosophy that SSS firmly believes and will continue to invest heavily in its human resources.

In 2015, SSS officially launched its Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which was geared solely towards the well being of all staff members at every organisational level. This program allows for all employees and their immediate families to benefit from a range of confidential psychological and other related services with all costs absorbed by SSS.

SSS also invests heavily in training and development for its employees and employee engagement in several CSR initiatives are always high on our agenda. In fact, SSS CSR committee ensures that there is always maximum staff volunteerism and engagement with most corporate responsibility and sustainability initiatives undertaken by the company.

Community

SSS continues to be actively involved in the communities within Trinidad. We partner with several NGO's and other organisations in community development projects and other sustainability initiatives.

Both Executive Management and employees play a major role in giving back to the community and improving the quality of  life for others through their volunteerism, fund raising and donations in kind.

Directors, Management and employees continue to support SSS community initiatives through providing meals to the less fortunate on the streets and homes within the varying communities of Trinidad, volunteering our time, labour and finances to building homes for those that are in need through our alliance with Habitat for Humanity as well as other community projects to name a few.

Whilst we continue to work toward a more sustainable future for our communities, SSS will remain true to its CSR vision of "We are working towards a future in which we work hand in hand with our communities to create a sustainable society."
